James Robinson is University Professor and the Reverend Dr. Richard L. Pearson Professor of Global Conflict Studies at the University of Chicago and the director of The Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution of Global Conflicts. His work explores the underlying causes of economic and political development and the relationships between political power, institutions, and prosperity. His scholarship includes the influential books (co-authored with Daron Acemoglu), Economic Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy, Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty (translated into 41 languages since its publication in 2012), and The Narrow Corridor: States, Society and the Fate of Liberty.
