The Double Whammy: The Disproportionate Impact of Systemic Racism and COVID on Children of Color

April 30, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Please join our next Carolina Seminar—The Double Whammy: The Disproportionate Impact of Systemic Racism and COVID on Children of Color—featuring Debra Furr-Holden, Director of the Flint Center for Health Equity Solutions. Dr. Furr-Holden has developed a critically important body of research, practice and policy around the Flint water supply contamination and other social determinants of health. She is an extraordinary speaker with a deep grasp of the multiple vagaries built into funding systems and overall research communities that perpetrate structural barriers to DEI across the board.

The Carolina Seminar Series aims to increase awareness about the impact of disparities that contribute to children’s ability to keep pace, which have broad dire effects on the neurodevelopmental trajectories of children growing up in disadvantaged households and communities. The seminar will further inform science-based policy measures that compel action within our local and state governments to drive initiatives that combat disparities impacting early childhood learning and well-being.
